Permission Codes Information for Departments

What will permission codes override?

Permission numbers can override multiple requirements. Requirements include:

  • Time Conflict: Allows a student to enroll in a class that has a time conflict with another enrolled class.
  • Requisite Not Met: Allows a student who does not meet the requisites to register.
  • Consent Required: Allows a student to enroll in a class that requires permission.
  • Career Restriction: Allows a student to register for a class outside of the student's career (ex., an undergraduate student registering in a graduate-level class).

Some permission numbers can also override:

  • Closed Class: Allows a student to over enroll in a full class, or take a reserve capacity seat. Permission numbers that over-ride closed class are not a default and will need to be specifically requested.
    • The initial batch of permission codes generated by the Registrar's 福利精品在线观看 will no longer override the class capacity/closed class. if you need a permission code that will allow a student to override capacity or bypass the waitlist you:
      • Contact your Department Scheduler to enter a request in the CLSS system on a particular section with the comment code of CAPOVERRIDE:X, with X indicating the number of codes you will need.
      • Email scheduling@utah.edu if you do not have edit rights in CLSS. Indicate the term, class, and number of CAPOVERRIDE codes you will need.

Can a student use a permission code and be on the waitlist?

Yes, if a student uses a permission code that does not override Closed Class, they can use the permission number while also using the waitlist for a class.
