Dear Advisors,
As you continue working with Spring 2026 degree candidates, please keep the following in mind:
Spring 2026 Graduation Closeout Date – May 22, 2026
While the official University Conferral date is April 30, 2026, the Closeout Date for Spring 2026 will be May 22, 2026. The Closeout Date is the final day that grades, grade changes, degree audit exceptions, and/or transfer work can be added to a student’s record for inclusion in the evaluation of their Spring 2026 degree requirements. All incomplete grades, courses in progress, T grades, and non-reported grades must also be resolved by this date.
If a student does not have all requirements completed and recorded by May 22, 2026, they will need to reapply to graduate for a future term.
*Note: Graduate certificate submissions must be sent to graduation@utah.edu by May 6, 2026 to allow ample time for processing.
Please direct any graduation or conferral questions to graduation@utah.edu.
Degree Audit Exceptions
All degree audit exceptions must be fully processed and approved through the workflow. While the ¸£Àû¾«Æ·ÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ of the Registrar will conduct multiple rounds of reviews and will not deny a student solely due to a pending exception request in workflow, it is important that submissions enter the approval chain as early as possible.
Please direct any degree audit or exceptions questions to degreeaudit@utah.edu.
Why the Closeout Date Matters
Please note that we have always operated with a Closeout Date; however, we recognized that it may be helpful for the broader community to be aware of what has traditionally been an internal process. To support your planning, the Closeout Date for each conferral cycle is now published on the Graduation website.
Meeting the Closeout Date supports the University’s ability to meet its federal reporting obligations, including timely submission of graduation data for the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and other federal compliance requirements. It also ensures that students who require degree conferral for licensure, graduate study, or employment can move forward without delay.
Thank you for your continued partnership during this Spring 2026 graduation cycle.
Grading Deadline Change
Starting Fall 2025, the University of Utah Academic Senate has approved a new grading deadline. Instructors must submit final grades to the ¸£Àû¾«Æ·ÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ of the Registrar within five calendar days after the semester ends. For full-semester courses, this is five days after the final exam period.
For first-half, second-half, and miscellaneous session courses, grades are due five days after the last scheduled class. This change applies to all University of Utah campuses and programs, except the School of Dentistry, S.J. Quinney College of Law, and Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine.
On the sixth day following the grading deadline for any part of term, outreach will begin from the ¸£Àû¾«Æ·ÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ of the Registrar for any class that does not have grades posted.

The Asia Campus Spring 2026 Academic Calendar has been updated to accommodate a new start date for classes in accordance with the Lunar New Year. Please review the new dates to ensure compliance with the updated dates and deadlines that were published in June 2025.

Please be aware that students who have elected CR/NC will not automatically meet the grade requirement for prerequisites of future course(s). A student attempting to use a CR grade to meet the prerequisite requirement for a course will need to contact the department offering the course to obtain a permission code before they will be able to enroll in the selected course(s).
